Patlite Introduces High-Output BD Series Panel-Mount Audible Alarm

Patlite has launched its new BD series of audible alarms, a high-performance signaling solution engineered to deliver up to 98 dB of sound output within a remarkably compact, 54-mm-deep footprint. Designed for modern machine builders and system integrators, the series addresses the perennial challenge of effective alarm signaling in high-noise manufacturing environments while adhering to the strict space constraints often found in control panel designs. By combining industrial-grade durability with a slim profile, the device ensures that safety warnings remain audible without requiring significant modifications to existing panel layouts.

The series is built with a focus on operational uniformity and security. Instead of relying on user-defined files that can vary from machine to machine, the BD series offers a pre-programmed library of 32 selectable sirens, alarms, and buzzers. These sounds are easily configured via a rear-mounted DIP switch, a design choice that prevents unauthorized or accidental changes by personnel on the factory floor. Furthermore, up to four distinct sound patterns can be triggered via bit input, allowing for program-driven alerts that correspond to specific machine diagnostic states or alarm conditions, facilitating faster issue resolution by maintenance teams.

Durability is a core feature of the series, which boasts an IP65 ingress protection rating and a 4.5 G vibration tolerance. This ensures reliable operation in dusty, humid, or high-vibration settings where standard signaling hardware might fail. Installation has also been significantly simplified; the unit features an innovative screw-mounting mechanism that allows the device to be secured from the front of the control panel, eliminating the need for technicians to work in cramped rear-panel spaces. Available in both NPN and PNP configurations for 12-24 V DC power—as well as a 100-240 V AC version—the BD series provides the flexibility required for global industrial deployments.

For engineers concerned with regulatory compliance, the alarm’s adjustable volume—controlled by a screwdriver to prevent tampering—allows for precise output calibration. While the device is capable of reaching 98 dB for high-priority alerts, it can be fine-tuned to maintain levels below the 85 dB OSHA hazardous threshold for continuous exposure. By prioritizing standardization and robust mechanical design, Patlite’s latest signaling platform offers a proactive way to maintain safety instrumentation reliability across diverse production environments, ultimately minimizing downtime and enhancing worker awareness in demanding industrial operations.
