Product Overview

The T8480C is a high-integrity Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) output module developed by ICS Triplex for the Trusted system architecture. Engineered for mission-critical applications requiring SIL3 functional safety (IEC 61508), this module provides 40 independent, fault-tolerant channels. Each channel is governed by a 2-out-of-3 (2oo3) voting logic across three internal processing paths, ensuring that a single component failure does not compromise the safety or availability of the control loop.

Designed for high-availability sectors such as subsea oil and gas, petrochemical processing, and power generation, the T8480C manages field-side devices with millisecond precision. It features 2500V opto-galvanic isolation to protect sensitive backplane electronics from field-side surges and electrical noise, making it suitable for the most volatile industrial environments.

Advanced Safety and Maintenance Features

The Trusted T8480C is built for zero-downtime maintenance. Utilizing a "SmartSlot" or Companion slot configuration, the module supports hot-swapping, allowing for the replacement of hardware without interrupting the active process. This is achieved through a localized Inter-Module Bus (IMB) that maintains communication with the TMR processors during the transition.

Diagnostic intelligence is a core characteristic of this module. It provides automatic line monitoring, capable of detecting and reporting open-circuit or short-circuit conditions in the field wiring. Furthermore, it supports high-resolution Sequence of Events (SOE) logging with 1ms accuracy, allowing engineers to perform detailed forensic analysis of system trips or state changes.
