Product Overview

The Allen-Bradley 1756-OV16E is a high-density digital output module designed for the ControlLogix® 1756 chassis system. This module features 16 sinking outputs characterized by integrated electronic fusing, providing superior circuit protection and diagnostic capabilities. As a sinking (NPN) module, it acts as the path to ground for the connected field load, making it compatible with a variety of DC actuators, solenoids, and indicators in complex industrial automation environments.

The "E" suffix in the 1756-OV16E model indicates the presence of electronic fusing. Unlike standard modules that require external fuses to protect the circuitry, this unit monitors current levels in real-time. If a short circuit or overcurrent condition is detected on an output point, the electronic fuse trips to protect the module’s internal components and the field device. This feature significantly reduces maintenance downtime by providing instant feedback via the controller's software.

Logic and Load Performance

The 1756-OV16E is engineered for precision switching and robust power handling across its 16 points, which are organized into two isolated groups of eight.

  • Sinking Configuration: Designed to switch the negative side of the DC circuit, compatible with 12/24V DC field devices.

  • Output Current Rating: Supports up to 1.0A per point at 30°C (derating to 0.5A at 60°C), with a maximum aggregate module current of 8A.

  • Electronic Fusing: Provides software-level diagnostics to identify blown fuses and the ability to reset them through the Logix Designer application.

  • Isolation: Features robust 250V continuous isolation between groups and from the backplane to field-side circuitry.

  • Fast Response: Offers a maximum output delay time of 70 µs (OFF to ON) and 360 µs (ON to OFF), ensuring high-speed logic execution for time-sensitive machine control.
