Product Overview

The Allen-Bradley 1756-OA16 is a high-density discrete output module designed for the ControlLogix® platform, providing 16 independent channels for switching AC loads. Operating within a broad voltage spectrum of 74V to 265V AC, this module is an ideal interface for controlling industrial actuators, including solenoids, motor starters, and indicators. It features two isolated groups of eight points each, allowing for flexible wiring configurations across different power phases or circuits.

Engineered for the 1756 chassis system, the 1756-OA16 facilitates seamless communication between the controller and field devices. It utilizes Triac-based switching to handle inductive and resistive loads with precision. The module includes sophisticated onboard diagnostics, such as "Fuse Blown" and "Field Power Loss" detection, which report directly to the controller tags to minimize troubleshooting time and protect the hardware from overcurrent conditions.

Technical Performance and Diagnostic Capabilities

The 1756-OA16 is built to maintain system integrity in rigorous manufacturing environments. It supports "Remove and Insert Under Power" (RIUP) functionality, allowing technicians to replace modules without powering down the entire chassis. For wiring, the module utilizes Removable Terminal Blocks (RTB), specifically the 1756-TBNH or 1756-TBSH, which simplify maintenance by allowing the wiring harness to remain intact during module swaps.

To ensure operational safety, the module offers configurable failure states. Users can program each point to go "Off," "On," or "Hold Last State" in the event of a controller communication loss. With a pilot duty rating of 0.5 A, it is robust enough for high-cycle applications while maintaining low power dissipation. The front panel features individual LED indicators for each of the 16 channels, providing immediate visual confirmation of output status and fault conditions.
