IDEC Launches Compact PLC+HMI With Integrated Control and Display

As manufacturers continue looking for more compact and efficient automation architectures, integrated control platforms are becoming increasingly attractive for machine builders and industrial facilities. IDEC’s latest FT1J PLC+HMI reflects this shift by combining process control and operator visualization into one device optimized for local automation tasks.

The new platform features dual CPUs dedicated separately to PLC operations and HMI functions. This architecture allows the controller to process machine logic and graphical interface tasks independently, helping maintain stable system responsiveness while simplifying deployment.

One of the most notable features is the built-in 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display with support for 16 million colors and a 480×272 resolution. Designed for industrial environments, the display remains readable under various lighting conditions and can be operated with gloved hands, making it suitable for factory-floor applications.

The FT1J also provides strong connectivity and flexible I/O capabilities within a compact footprint. The controller includes eight integrated DC I/O points configurable for discrete signals or analog functions, including support for up to two 4–20 mA analog channels.

Additional sensor compatibility includes:

  • RTD temperature inputs

  • Thermocouple measurements

  • High-speed signal scanning up to 20 kHz

  • 12-bit analog resolution

For larger applications, the system supports expansion cartridges that increase total capacity to as many as 22 I/O points.

Communication flexibility is another major advantage. The integrated controller supports multiple industrial protocols including MQTT, EtherNet/IP, and Modbus, enabling easier integration into smart factory and IIoT environments. The device can also transfer data directly to cloud-connected services and external communication platforms when required.

By integrating the PLC and HMI into a single hardware platform, IDEC aims to reduce panel complexity, simplify wiring, and lower installation costs for machine builders and plant operators. The compact design additionally helps save valuable cabinet space in distributed automation systems and localized machine control applications.

Rather than replacing large-scale PLC architectures, the FT1J is positioned as a flexible edge-level controller for standalone equipment, process monitoring stations, and smaller automated systems where local visualization and control are essential.

As industrial automation continues moving toward decentralized control and compact edge computing solutions, integrated PLC+HMI devices are becoming increasingly important for simplifying deployment while maintaining performance and connectivity across modern manufacturing operations.
