Aramco and IBM Forge Strategic Partnership to Advance Industrial AI and Operational Automation

Driving Digital Transformation in the Energy Sector

Aramco and IBM have officially announced a planned collaboration aimed at advancing artificial intelligence, agentic AI, and operational automation within the industrial and energy sectors. The strategic announcement was made at the THINK Boston event, attended by IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna and Aramco Senior Vice President of Digital and Information Technology, Sami Al Ajmi.

The alliance will focus on integrating IBM’s advanced technology platforms, consulting services, and research capabilities with Aramco's vast data assets and deep energy-specific expertise. Together, the organizations intend to develop and deploy industrial AI use cases tailored for mission-critical environments.

Enhancing Resilience and Safety

The collaboration explores the practical applications of hybrid cloud and digital technologies to solve complex operational challenges. By combining their strengths, the two companies aim to drive reliability, efficiency, and safety across heavy industrial operations.

According to Sami Al Ajmi:

"Technology and innovation are central to Aramco’s long-term strategy. This collaboration with IBM enables us to assess how industrial AI and other mutually-agreed domains can further enhance operational excellence and resilience, while reinforcing our leadership in Industrial AI—particularly in reliability, safety, and mission-critical environments."

Saad Toma, General Manager of IBM Middle East and Africa, emphasized that this joint effort seeks to apply emerging technologies to tackle complex, large-scale industrial challenges.

A Long-Standing Relationship

The two companies share a history of working together that dates back to 1947. This latest initiative represents a continuation of their long-term partnership in digital infrastructure, though the planned collaboration remains subject to the finalization of definitive agreements between the two parties.
