LG CNS Launches Cold-Chain Mobile Shuttle Robot for Extreme Temperature Automation

LG CNS is advancing industrial logistics automation with the launch of its new Mobile Shuttle robot, a next-generation intralogistics solution engineered to maintain stable operation in extreme cold environments. The company said the robotic platform can support 24/7 warehouse operations inside frozen and refrigerated facilities, helping businesses improve efficiency, storage density, and worker safety in challenging conditions.

The Korean AI transformation and smart logistics company officially introduced the Mobile Shuttle at MODEX 2026 in Atlanta, highlighting its ability to extend automated material handling into cold-chain applications. Traditionally, low-temperature warehouses have presented significant challenges for automation equipment due to battery performance limitations, mechanical reliability issues, and harsh operating conditions.

LG CNS designed the Mobile Shuttle to overcome these barriers by enabling reliable robotic movement in environments reaching -15°F (-26°C). The solution targets industries including food and beverage, retail distribution, pharmaceuticals, and other sectors where temperature-controlled logistics are essential.

The Mobile Shuttle is built around a high-density storage automation architecture that allows multiple robots to operate simultaneously inside warehouse rack systems. According to LG CNS, each unit can travel at speeds of up to 4.9 ft/s (1.5 m/s) and handle loads of approximately 3,307 lbs (1,500 kg).

Unlike conventional shuttle systems limited to forward and backward movement, LG CNS applies a four-way shuttle design that enables robots to move in multiple directions, including left, right, forward, backward, upward, and downward. This flexible navigation capability reduces routing restrictions and improves warehouse space utilization.

The company stated that its high-density storage approach can deliver more than 30% higher storage efficiency compared with traditional two-way shuttle solutions. By optimizing rack utilization and robot movement, operators can increase inventory capacity without expanding warehouse footprints.

Beyond mechanical automation, LG CNS has integrated AI-based logistics intelligence into the Mobile Shuttle platform. The system includes an AI agent that allows operators to interact with robots through natural language commands. In urgent situations, such as priority shipments or unexpected workflow changes, warehouse personnel can directly issue instructions through a chatbot interface.

The AI agent also supports troubleshooting by analyzing operational issues and recommending response actions. This capability helps improve equipment availability, reduce downtime, and simplify maintenance processes for logistics teams managing large-scale automated facilities.

LG CNS has also incorporated mathematical optimization technologies into the platform to improve fleet coordination. By analyzing robot routes, workload conditions, and warehouse status in real time, the system can reduce bottlenecks and automatically assign efficient transportation tasks to individual shuttle units.

This combination of robot fleet management, real-time optimization, and AI-assisted decision support reflects the broader shift toward intelligent intralogistics systems. Modern warehouses increasingly require automation platforms that can adapt to changing demand patterns while maintaining continuous operation.

The Mobile Shuttle is designed to handle various cargo types, including standard packages and cylindrical products such as automotive batteries. LG CNS said the system has achieved UL certification, confirming compliance with safety requirements for electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment in the United States.

The introduction of the cold-environment Mobile Shuttle strengthens LG CNS’s position in the global smart logistics market. The company has continued expanding its presence in North America since first presenting the platform at ProMat 2025 in Chicago.

In 2025, LG CNS announced a partnership with Streamline-It to accelerate smart warehouse adoption in the U.S. market. The company has also secured a deployment project with Paris Baguette USA for a Texas manufacturing facility, where Mobile Shuttle technology will support frozen ingredient transportation and sorting operations.

For the Texas project, LG CNS plans to provide a complete logistics automation ecosystem, including Mobile Shuttle fleet orchestration, inventory management integration, and remote equipment monitoring. These capabilities are designed to provide operators with greater visibility and control over automated warehouse environments.

Hundreds of shuttle robots are already operating at LG Group affiliate facilities in North America, supporting automated logistics processes across industrial sites. The company expects demand for cold-chain automation to continue growing as manufacturers and distributors seek more resilient supply chain solutions.

The development of Mobile Shuttle reflects a larger industry movement toward AI-powered warehouse automation, where robotics, software intelligence, and data analytics work together to create more flexible and efficient logistics operations. As global supply chains become increasingly complex, automation systems capable of operating in specialized environments are becoming a critical component of modern industrial infrastructure.
