Balluff has expanded its industrial automation product portfolio by introducing the SmartLight Black Line signal towers and a completely redesigned generation of optical fork sensors. These latest releases are engineered to optimize machine status visibility across complex manufacturing shop floors while delivering flexible, high-precision object detection for modern production lines. By integrating advanced IO-Link communication and versatile mounting profiles, the company aims to help system integrators streamline installation processes and enhance operational efficiency.

The newly unveiled SmartLight Black Line series is tailored for high-visibility machine status monitoring within bright or expansive industrial environments. Available in configurations featuring two, six, or four segments along with optional sound modules, these towers support IO-Link 1.1 communication protocols for direct and seamless integration into overarching machine control frameworks. A standout feature of this hardware line is the Ultimate mode, which allows operators to govern the signal towers straight through raw process data. This capability drastically reduces configuration times compared to traditional parameter-driven setups. Additional integrated display functions—such as fill level monitoring, runlight animations, customizable display options, and a built-in StrobeLight mode—allow facilities to dynamically represent diverse operational states. Operating smoothly between 18 VDC and 30.2 VDC within an IP65 enclosure rating, these towers are exceptionally well-suited for automated assembly lines, heavy machine installations, and safety-critical retrofit applications.

Complementing the signaling lineup, Balluff has revamped its optical fork sensors portfolio to accommodate a vast spectrum of industrial detection tasks, ranging from economical entry-level configurations to high-performance IO-Link, infrared, and laser variants. Crucially, all models share a unified mechanical layout, enabling plant technicians to upgrade legacy systems effortlessly without modifying existing mounting brackets or realigning optical components. The budget-friendly Entry Line caters to cost-sensitive material handling applications through a robust zinc die-cast IP67 housing, visible red light beams, and standard fork openings of 30 mm, 50 mm, and 80 mm. Meanwhile, advanced models integrate high-speed switching frequencies reaching up to 5 kHz, enhanced ambient light immunity, active contamination monitoring, and remote configuration features. Whether deploying laser variants for micro-feature detection or infrared models to maintain reliable object sensing in dusty environments, automation engineers gain unprecedented flexibility in part presence detection and positioning accuracy.
