AutomationDirect Broadens STRIDE PRO Lineup with New Gigabit and Cost-Effective PoE+ Switches

Bridging the functional divide between plug-and-play simplicity and enterprise-grade network management, AutomationDirect has officially expanded its STRIDE PRO Unmanaged+ industrial switch family. The rollout adds multi-port Gigabit units alongside economical Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) models, directly addressing growing bandwidth demands across plant-floor architectures without burdening automation engineers with full Layer 2 management overhead.

As industrial facilities deploy more high-resolution machine vision cameras, distributed I/O blocks, and edge processing hardware, control networks face increased data density. Traditional unmanaged switches handle basic packet switching reliably, yet they lack traffic filtering mechanisms required to prevent multicast flooding on fieldbus networks like EtherNet/IP and PROFINET. Conversely, fully managed enterprise switches require specialized IT setup and ongoing security maintenance. The STRIDE PRO Unmanaged+ framework addresses this operational gap by integrating selective network management capabilities into a hardware architecture configured primarily via onboard DIP switches.

The newly released Gigabit configurations—identified under the SEP1-SWxUG designation—extend port capacity up to eight RJ45 connections. Crucially, these Gigabit variants pack advanced traffic control capabilities, including IGMP snooping to regulate multicast distribution, QoS traffic prioritization for time-critical control signals, and VLAN segmentation support to isolate sensitive machinery data. Real-time diagnostic capabilities are also enhanced via hardware-level port mirroring and proactive port disconnect alarms that immediately alert operators to unexpected dropouts or unauthorized physical intrusions.

For cost-sensitive edge deployments, the expanded Fast Ethernet PoE+ variants deliver midspan power delivery tailored for peripheral hardware, IP cameras, and field sensors. While these 100 Mbit models feature a streamlined control set focusing on broadcast storm protection and QoS, they drastically reduce power infrastructure costs by eliminating dedicated AC wiring runs across machine frames.

By offering a granular tier of intermediate hardware, AutomationDirect reinforces a pragmatic design philosophy in industrial networking: enabling panel builders and system integrators to secure, segment, and streamline industrial Ethernet infrastructure using intuitive, zero-overhead hardware tools.
