As industrial facilities deploy more high-resolution machine vision cameras, distributed I/O blocks, and edge processing hardware, control networks face increased data density. Traditional unmanaged switches handle basic packet switching reliably, yet they lack traffic filtering mechanisms required to prevent multicast flooding on fieldbus networks like EtherNet/IP and PROFINET. For cost-sensitive edge deployments, the expanded Fast Ethernet PoE+ variants deliver midspan power delivery tailored for peripheral hardware, IP cameras, and field sensors. While these 100 Mbit models feature a streamlined control set focusing on broadcast storm protection and QoS, they drastically reduce power infrastructure costs by eliminating dedicated AC wiring runs across machine frames.
