The ICS Triplex T8151B is a high-integrity Trusted™ Communications Interface designed to provide a secure and fault-tolerant gateway between the Trusted TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) controller and external networks. Developed by Rockwell Automation, this module is a core component of safety-critical systems, offering specialized triplexed hardware architecture. By utilizing three independent processing paths, the T8151B ensures that communication remains uninterrupted even in the event of a single point of failure, making it indispensable for Emergency Shutdown (ESD) and Fire and Gas (F&G) systems.

The T8151B manages complex data exchange protocols while maintaining the strict timing and safety requirements of the Trusted platform. It serves as the primary bridge for Modbus/TCP communications, allowing host systems, DCS platforms, and HMI interfaces to access controller data safely without compromising the integrity of the safety loop.

The T8151B is engineered to protect the "Trusted" environment from external network disturbances while providing transparent data access.

  • Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR): Incorporates three isolated communication channels that work in parallel. The system performs continuous cross-checking and voting to identify and isolate faults automatically.

  • Protocol Versatility: Native support for Modbus/TCP (Master/Slave) allows for easy integration with modern Ethernet-based industrial networks and third-party automation equipment.

  • Network Isolation: Acts as a firewall between the safety-critical TMR backplane and the plant-wide Ethernet network, preventing unauthorized access or data broadcast storms from affecting the controller logic.
