Product Overview

The Allen-Bradley 1769-ECR is a foundational hardware component required for the operation of any CompactLogix™ 5000 or 1769-based expansion I/O system. Functioning as a high-integrity bus terminator, this module is installed on the far-right side of the I/O bank to provide the necessary electrical impedance to the 1769 FlexBus. Without the 1769-ECR, the communication backplane remains an "open circuit," leading to signal reflections and a subsequent bus failure that prevents the controller from recognizing or communicating with any connected I/O modules.


Beyond its electrical role, the 1769-ECR provides a protective barrier for the exposed pins of the last module in the rack. It ensures that the modular assembly is mechanically locked and shielded from environmental contaminants. This component is compatible with all CompactLogix processors and 1769 expansion chassis, making it a universal requirement for both local and remote distributed I/O configurations.

Installation and Mechanical Integration

Proper integration of the 1769-ECR is vital for system stability. The module features a dedicated bus lever that must be securely engaged to lock the end cap to the adjacent module, ensuring a vibration-resistant electrical connection.

  • Mounting Versatility: Supports standard 35mm DIN rail mounting for rapid cabinet assembly or direct panel mounting for high-vibration environments.

  • No-Power Installation: To protect the logic circuitry, the 1769-ECR must be installed or removed only when the system power is disconnected.
