Rotor Dynamics and Transient Data Processing

The 3500/22M TDI module processes dynamic machinery signals from the 3500 rack and supports transient recording functions associated with speed variation and alarm events. It collects startup and coastdown data based on programmable speed and time intervals.

The module supports Keyphasor inputs for speed reference acquisition. Four 3500 system Keyphasor signals can be connected, with supported speed ranges depending on enabled dynamic channels. For 1 to 16 channels, the supported speed range is 1 rpm to 100,000 rpm.

Waveform acquisition supports 48 channels with DC-coupled waveform collection and simultaneous synchronous and asynchronous sampling during operating modes. Configurable synchronous sampling rates include up to 1024 samples per revolution for 2 revolutions.

For machinery diagnostic analysis, the TDI collects amplitude and phase information from static values, providing four nX static values for each measurement point.

Communications and Signal Interface

The 3500/22M provides multiple communication paths for configuration, data acquisition, and diagnostic software connection.

The front panel USB-B interface supports BN Host Protocol communication with a maximum baud rate of 115.2 kbaud and a maximum cable length of 5 meters.

The Ethernet interface supports 10Base-T and 100Base-TX communication conforming to IEEE802.3 standards. The module communicates using BN Host Protocol and BN TDI Protocol through Ethernet TCP/IP.

The 100Base-FX fiber optic option supports full duplex multimode fiber communication with a maximum cable length of 2000 meters.

Field Installation Guidelines

Rack Installation

  • Install the TDI module in one full-height front slot of the 3500 rack.
  • Install the associated I/O module in one full-height rear slot.
  • Remove the existing 3500/20 RIM and RIM I/O before installing the TDI upgrade.
  • Insert TDI I/O first, then insert the TDI module into the rack.

Grounding and Communication Wiring

  • Connect Signal Common to a single-point instrument ground when required.
  • Isolate Signal Common from chassis ground according to Power Input Module selector settings.
  • Use shielded Category 5 cable for 10Base-T/100Base-TX Ethernet connections.
  • Use MT-RJ female fiber connectors for 100Base-FX fiber connections.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the primary function of the 3500/22M module?

The module collects transient machinery data, waveform information, and rack communication data from the Bently Nevada 3500 monitoring system.

  • Does the 3500/22M support Keyphasor signals?

Yes. The module supports four 3500 system Keyphasor signals for speed reference and transient data collection.

  • What Ethernet communication types are supported?

The module supports 10Base-T/100Base-TX Ethernet and optional 100Base-FX fiber optic Ethernet interfaces.

  • What communication protocols are available?

The module supports BN Host Protocol and BN TDI Protocol through USB and Ethernet TCP/IP connections.

  • How many waveform channels can the TDI collect?

The module supports waveform collection for 48 channels with synchronous and asynchronous sampling.

  • What is the operating temperature range?

The operating temperature range is -30 deg C to +65 deg C with 95% non-condensing humidity.

  • Can the 3500/22M replace a 3500/20 RIM directly?

No. The upgrade requires removal of the RIM and RIM I/O before TDI installation to avoid module damage.

  • What grounding requirement applies to USB communication?

The specified USB cable maintains chassis isolation, and the connected computer should avoid ground connection to prevent ground loops.
