Product Overview

The Allen-Bradley 1756-L62 is a high-performance Logix5562™ processor designed for the ControlLogix® platform. Engineered to manage demanding automation tasks, this controller provides a robust 4 MB of user memory for logic and data storage, supplemented by 478 KB of dedicated I/O memory. It serves as a centralized processing hub for medium to large-scale industrial applications, capable of governing up to 128,000 total digital I/O points and 4,000 analog I/O points.

The 1756-L62 excels in multitasking environments, supporting up to 32 separate tasks with 100 programs per task. This includes periodic, event-driven, and continuous tasks, allowing for precise synchronization of complex machinery. While the L62 has been largely superseded by the L7x and L8x series, it remains a vital component for maintaining existing 1756 chassis infrastructures, offering proven reliability for discrete, process, motion, and drive control.

Advanced Communication and Performance

Integrated with a standard RS-232 serial port, the 1756-L62 supports a variety of industrial protocols including DF1, DH-485, Modbus (via logic), and ASCII. For higher-tier networking, the processor utilizes a "Producer/Consumer" model, which optimizes backplane data transfer and allows multiple controllers to share information across EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, and DeviceNet networks via dedicated bridge modules.

To ensure high availability in mission-critical operations, the 1756-L62 supports full controller redundancy. It also features non-volatile memory capabilities through optional CompactFlash cards (1756-CF128), which safeguard the user program against power loss without solely relying on battery backup. The controller utilizes the 1756-BA2 energy storage module to maintain volatile memory during system downtime.
